About

The Hettig/Kahn Companies - Houston was established in November 1977 for the purpose of real estate acquisition, development, and management.  Since its inception, The Hettig/Kahn Companies have been involved in the development of hundreds of millions of dollars of office buildings, retail centers, condominium conversions, and apartments, with a strong focus on affordable housing.  The management entity has over 2,600 units in Texas and is well respected throughout the industry with investors and lenders.

The Hettig/Kahn Companies have won various awards, including a US Congressional Recognition Award and a 2011 Houston Business Journal Landmark Award for South Acres Ranch, and "Most Innovative Design" for a multi-family project from Professional Builders magazine previously.  W. Barry Kahn was awarded Developer of the Year by the Texas Association of Builders in 2010.  The City of Houston bestowed upon John Hettig of Hettig/Kahn Companies the "Visible Environment and Community Enrichment" award in 1987.  Employees of Hettig Management Corp. have also received numerous awards from the Houston Apartment Association, which include "Manager of the Year" in 1990 and 2004, "Property Supervisor of the Year" in 1992 and 2004, and "Owner/Management Executive of the Year" in 1994, 1995 and 2008.  Darlene Guidry, the retired former president of Hettig Management Corp., was president of the Houston Apartment Association in 2004 and Texas Inter-Faith Housing in 2011.

Organization memberships include Texas Affiliation of Affordable Housing Providers, Texas Apartment Association, Texas Association of Builders, National Association of Home Builders, Housing Advisory Group, Houston Apartment Association, National Apartment Association, Institute of Real Estate Management, and Greater Houston Builders Association.  Officers of the Hettig/Kahn Companies hold committee and board positions on most of these organization.

The Hettig/Kahn Companies have acquired, developed and rehabilitated numerous office buildings, multi-family, and retail centers throughout the United States.  The outstanding architectural design of their commercial office buildings have drawn renown tenants such as a former President of the United States and a former Governor of Texas.  The combination of creativity and innovation in Hettig/Kahn’s rehabs has benefited their investors as well as enriched the communities in which they are situated.
